Linda is an 8 year-old crossbreed mare, first deshoed in November 2011 following the Jaime Jackson school of natural hoofcare.
However, horseshoes had masked an all too familiar problem in domestic horses today – laminitis – although not an acute case, Linda showed signs of subclinical laminitis such as hoof sensitivity over stony ground, bloody white line, stress rings in the hoof wall, almost arthritic movements that came and went and a voracious appetite.
One month after she was first unshoed and following a radical diet change from grass to hay, Linda could again be ridden, but the only surfaces comfortable enough were in the field or on very smooth asphalt, slowly and for a limited time only.
So we passed a few months like this, until I was saved from the boredom of the same walk around the field by Floating Boots boots.
I was truly delighted to find these boots: I was able to return to riding on all surfaces safe in the knowledge that my mare was being ridden in comfort. From the first day I put the boots on, I was amazed at how natural and flowing she felt.
